One Last Run

Today’s weather forecast listed temperatures for our area in the upper 40s.  Some forecasts even suggested the possibility of highs in the low 50s.  Hearing this on the radio, Ryan declared today a sleighing day.  After all, if the temperatures truly hit these highs, there wasn’t going to be any snow left of the ground by sunset.  And so, after the boys diligently worked through their math, reading, and handwriting, we set off for the neighborhood sledding slope.

Covered with several inches of snow just a few days ago, today the sledding slope, which is actually a side of the neighborhood drainage area, was slushy and wet.  In fact, there were four streams, fed by melting snow, running into the area.

With strict instructions to “stop before you get to the water,” the boys slipped, slid, and slushed their way up and down the slope.

They were soaked by the end of their sledding adventure – their snow pants, boots, and water resistant gloves no match for the wet, slushy snow – but with temperatures in the high 40s, no one complained of being cold.  Actually, on the walk home, Connor quickly removed his hat and gloves, unzipped his jacket, and declared the day, “H-O-T.”  This is the child who is planning to move to Alaska, so I guess it’s good that he finds 40-something hot!
