Teacher Appreciation
Tomorrow is the last day of school, and so tonight I am burning the midnight oil trying to finish up teachers’ gifts. Are you wondering why the Mom of two home-schooled boys is making teachers’ gifts? No, I’m not making these for myself. Although I am tempted to keep them, they are truly for the boys’ teachers. Both boys currently receive speech therapy through the public school system, and both boys have been extremely fortunate to have wonderful, capable speech therapists this year. Ryan likes his speech teacher so much that he has stated on more than one occasion that he wants to be in speech forever!
So, even as a home-schooling Mom, each year I strive to come up with unique, but useful, ways to show the boys’ teachers our appreciation. We’ve given family movie night buckets to two teachers with teenage children, a rose bush to a teacher who swore she couldn’t grow anything before this rose plant, a vase hand-painted by the preschool class to a teacher who loved finger-print art, and this year, these hand-made beaded bookmarks (along with Barnes & Noble gift certificates).
My good friend Eden made me one of these beautiful beaded bookmarks when she came to visit last summer. I loved my bookmark so much that I have since taken up making my own bookmarks as gifts, and have discovered that I truly enjoy beading. In fact, I am hoping to begin making some simple jewelry pieces later in the summer.
